Online Jazzathon - keeping jazz music alive

The whole music industry has been hit hard by COVID-19 but never does the pandemic stop jazz from happening at Innonation Studio. As a premiere online platform for Hong Kong’s live music since Apr 2020, Innonation Studio has featured over a hundred local musicians of all ages on hundreds of live-streamed shows.

Jazzathon - a continued, relentless effort to curate, create and perform music under the broad definition of “Jazz”, with diverse programme of varying themes, from “Tributes” to Jazz Giants like Charlie Haden and Bill Evans, to “Studio Visit” series where we collaborate with musicians in their cozy creative spaces, to free improvisations and showcases of original compositions. Innonation Studio brings on a full spectrum of possibilities in free-mined, high-quality music making, in hopes to offset the damage brought upon by the on-going pandemic. The studio has also been a local and international news sensation thanks to the innovative “Noodle Jazz” series where musicians squeezed into a cramped local Hong Kong noodle joint (Yuen Hing Lung) and exhibited their own creative works, with inspirations drawn from such a unique space, via online streaming.

Innonation Studio is founded by Justin Siu, a renowned Jazz bassist in Hong Kong who strives for excellence in making good music, with utmost determination and sincerity. Decidedly undeterred by bans and restrictions on live music performances, Siu hopes to gather keen audiences online for the studio’s free, donation-supported live streams that usually start at HKT 9:30pm, to allow for the enjoyment of live performances and interactions in a safe and socially-distanced manner.
