Widely regarded as one of the most prestigious competitions in the world, the Queen Elisabeth Competition has crowned pianists such as Boris Giltburg, Valery Afanassiev, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Leon Fleisher, and Emil Gilels, as well as violinists including Ray Chen, Vadim Repin, Jaime Laredo, and David Oistrakh. In 2025, Dutch pianist Nikola Meeuwsen joined this distinguished lineage as the Grand Prize Winner, at the age of 23.
