Widely regarded as one of the most prestigious competitions in the world, the Queen Elisabeth Competition has crowned pianists such as Boris Giltburg, Valery Afanassiev, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Leon Fleisher, and Emil Gilels, as well as violinists including Ray Chen, Vadim Repin, Jaime Laredo, and David Oistrakh. In 2025, Dutch pianist Nikola Meeuwsen joined this distinguished lineage as the Grand Prize Winner, at the age of 23. His playing was described by The Times as having "tapped right into the delicacy and beauty of everything he played," and he is quickly emerging as one of the most exciting artists of our time. At just 21, Jan Čmejla has already stunned the world with an impressive list of accolades, including winning the 2025 Leipzig Bach Competition, where he became the first Czech pianist to take the top honour in the competition's 75-year history. Praised by Gramophone as "one to watch… making waves on both sides of the Atlantic", Jan will bring to Hong Kong works by J.S. Bach, the composer at the heart of his recent triumph, in a carefully curated programme. Expect an unforgettable performance filled with intensity, elegance, and youthful energy!
